Alleged Stalker Inquired: 'But What If I Am Madeleine?'
A woman charged with harassing Kate McCann allegedly recorded her a recorded message which posed: "suppose I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, 24, who a jury heard has repeatedly claimed she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are facing charges indicted with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February the current year.
On Monday, Leicester Crown Court was told phone records and evidence recovered from phones recorded Ms Wandelt consistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a genetic test over 2023 and 2024.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a trip in Portugal - is among the most covered investigations and continues to be unresolved.
'I Don't Want Money'
A separate recorded message, shared in court, documented Ms Wandelt declaring: "I know I'm overweight and plain like Madeleine had been, but I know what I know."
While one recording of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's recording said: "Imagine there is a small chance that I am Madeleine? What happens next? Wouldn't that be important for you?"
"I do not need money, I maintain a existence here in Poland, I only wish to know," the message continued.
The panel was informed that via emails, mobile messages and communications, Ms Wandelt demanded a genetic test, forwarded childhood photos to her phone in a bid to display a resemblance to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and claimed to have "recollections" from a early life with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, an investigator with law enforcement who compiled the evidence, advised the court there "didn't appear to be any replies" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also reached out to close associates of the McCanns, according to the phone records.
On October 9th, 2024, the father answered a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "incorrect contact information."
During that incident Ms Wandelt deposited a voicemail on Mrs McCann's recording saying "I will continue and I intend to demonstrate my claim."
The court heard the co-defendant established a connection online with Ms Wandelt before joining her on a visit to the McCanns' property in the county in December 2024.
Communication data demonstrated Mrs Spragg had communicated via communication app to Mrs McCann to say the news outlets had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she should be taken seriously in the time preceding the visit to that location, the county, in last December.
The court learned message exchanges between the two individuals, in last November, planning trying to obtain Mrs McCann's genetic material from her garbage or from cutlery at a restaurant.
"We must make a stand," Mrs Spragg informed Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the visit to their home, the defendant sent a communication which said: "We're currently sitting outside the McCanns' house with our vehicle dark resembling investigators. I wanted to do this with Peter Andrew I didn't imagine I would be doing that with the McCanns."
The proceedings ongoing.
