Another Four Apprehensions Executed in Link to Louvre Precious Gems Heist

Another four suspects were taken into custody within the framework of the active inquiry into the last month's robbery of priceless jewellery at the Paris Louvre, per reports from the French judicial authorities.

Specifics of the Newest Detentions

A pair of males, in their late thirties, and two female individuals, aged 31 and 40, faced apprehension earlier this week. Each hails from the Paris region.

Included in this group is believed to be the remaining individual of a four-man gang that reportedly executed the broad-daylight robbery, according to local news outlets. The other three suspected thieves are already in custody and charged, according to officials.

Investigators currently possess up to 96 hours to interrogate the suspects. Zero evidence has to date been discovered of the pilfered gems - worth an estimated €88m (£76m; $102m) - which were stolen on October 19th.

Previous Accusations and Rejections

Four people have already been indicted in relation to the robbery - three male and one female suspects, who similarly reside within the greater Paris.

One female, aged 38 was charged earlier this month with involvement in organized robbery and conspiracy to commit crimes with a view to committing a crime.

Separately, one male suspect, 37 years old, was accused of stealing and conspiratorial activities.

Both of these individuals, who have not had their identities disclosed, have rejected all accusations.

The Method of the Robbery Was Carried Out

The heist happened when the group of four men employed a hijacked vehicle with a mounted lift to gain access to the Apollo Gallery through a terrace near the Seine River.

The perpetrators employed a cutting disc to crack open display cases containing the jewelry.

The perpetrators stayed inside for four minutes and fled the scene on two motor scooters stationed outside at 09:38 in the morning, before switching to cars.

One of the stolen items - a crown - was dropped during the escape but eight more objects of precious ornaments - including an emerald-and-diamond necklace that was gifted by Napoleon I his second wife, Marie-Louise of Austria - were stolen.

Safeguarding Deficiencies and Consequences

It has been stated that the theft was performed by minor lawbreakers as opposed to sophisticated criminal organizations.

Soon following the robbery, it was revealed by the Louvre's director that the sole surveillance camera observing the Galerie d'Apollon was directed away from the balcony scaled by the robbers to break in.

The president of the Louvre has subsequently acknowledged that the institution had fallen short in its duties, but disputed allegations of security being ignored - saying that from the time she took office in 2021 she had been consistently alerting of the necessity of increased funding.

Enhanced Safeguarding Protocols

In the wake of the robbery, safeguarding procedures have been strengthened for France's cultural institutions.

The museum has moved numerous highly prized jewelry items to the French central bank following the heist.
