Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's natural for concerns to be raised about his future following a further convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in twelve matches, representing the club's poorest run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I've received significant support from management,” Slot stated.
“It's important to reverse this trend and earn three points obviously but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He added, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the confidence. However I've not talked to them after this match so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Issues and Player Reaction
The manager lamented familiar failings from his team in their Champions League defeat, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side going through a period such as this with performances this poor.”
He concluded, “But we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we’re always going to fight.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to where it needs to be, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
