Jennifer Lawrence Expresses Mentioning Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ Dividing the Country Apart
Lawrence has expressed that she believes it's no longer appropriate to voice opinions regarding the Trump government, concerned it could exacerbate divisive discussions and further divisions throughout the nation.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Explains the Actress
In a recent interview, Lawrence shared, “During the first Trump administration, I believed I was acting frantically in a panicked state. But experience has shown, election after election, Hollywood stars fail to influence at all on voter decisions.”
The actor went on, “What’s the point? I’m just expressing personal views on a matter that’s going to add fuel to a fire tearing the country apart.”
Shifting Views
The actress has previously been open about backing Republican and Democratic candidates over the years. Raised by conservative Republicans in Kentucky, she supported the Republican nominee in the 2008 election before joining the Democratic party and explaining she recognized during Obama’s administration that supporting the GOP was opposing her own rights as a woman.
Past Statements
In 2015, she remarked that a Trump victory could represent “a disaster” and publicly supported the Democratic candidate in the 2020 presidential race. More recently, she lent her support to the Democratic nominee, “because I feel she’s an amazing candidate and I know that she will take all necessary steps to defend reproductive rights.”
Hollywood’s Stance
Jennifer Lawrence was supported by most of Hollywood in her opposition to the former president as a presidential contender, but the lack of leverage celebrities have over the electoral decisions was highlighted by his election win.
“This upcoming term appears changed,” noted the actress of his administration. “Since he stated his intentions. We were aware of his actions for the previous administration. He was transparent. And voters made that decision.”
Latest Film
The actor is discussing Die, My Love, director Lynne Ramsay’s movie in which she stars as a recent parent who struggles with her psychological well-being in the countryside. During a media event for the project in Venice, Lawrence commented on the situation in the Middle East: “I’m terrified. It’s horrifying. What’s occurring is equivalent to a humanitarian crisis and it’s awful.”
Additional Thoughts
The actress elaborated by saying that she was saddened by “the lack of civility in the discussions of U.S. political debates at present and how that is going to be accepted to the kids right now. It’s going to be standard to them that politicians lie.”
Lawrence attempted to refocus anger about the conflict to leaders rather than celebrities. “Concentrate on who is responsible,” she said, which was interpreted as a allusion to the then-recent pledge supported by more than 4,000 Hollywood professionals to avoid certain cultural organizations.
Individual Insights
Jennifer Lawrence, who won an Oscar at a young age for her performance in the acclaimed film, is generating Oscar buzz for her work in her latest project. Even though Ramsay has rejected the narrative being seen as one of post-birth struggles and psychological distress, Lawrence revealed that she did relate to elements of her role’s experience after the birth of her youngest child, shortly after shooting ended.
“There was concern regarding my baby,” she said, “envisioning every worst-case scenario, and then second-guessing everything that I was doing. I was already in therapy, but I began using a treatment called that medicine and I took it for two weeks and it made a difference.”
Professional Experiences
Jennifer Lawrence also mentioned about the freeing requirement of completing nude scenes in the project while she was expecting and limited physically.
“It feels nice,” she said, about having to cast off vanity. “Honestly, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between me and a prostitute? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
