Jurgen Klopp says rejoining to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.
Jurgen Klopp, who departed from Liverpool in 2024, has suggested that rejoining the club remains something that could happen. Klopp, after a transformative nine-year spell which brought a European Cup triumph and the Premier League crown since 1990, has since taken on roles overseeing worldwide football with the Red Bull group and in an advisory capacity for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
Liverpool won the league title last season, but many fans holding him in high esteem would be thrilled by the possibility of his potential comeback. Speaking candidly, he explained to his interviewer: “I declared I won't manage any other side in England. Which implies should it be the Reds...yeah. In theory, it could happen.”
“At 58 years old, so I could make the decision later on, who knows. Is a decision required immediately? If so, I wouldn't return. Fortunately, no such pressure exists. I'll simply watch what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Pressed on which situations must arise to draw him back to the touchline, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn to such a return. “I'm not entirely sure, I enjoy my current role,” he stated. “I don’t miss coaching; No desire to be under bad weather for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for interviews four times, three times a week or having 10-12 interviews weekly.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, yet sharing a meal alongside the squad having a nice chat, I appreciate that. We won a lot of games so there was often great spirits at the club. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise for his successor, acknowledging his role for the adjustments which secured the championship last campaign. They've been defeated four consecutive matches across various tournaments post heavy investment, yet he dismissed the idea it could be a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward in Flo[rian] Wirtz, doubters will be silenced with negative comments. An outstanding player. The French striker, excellent performer. It’s a really good thoughtfully assembled roster. No need for concern over the club, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of Diogo Jota, a player he signed during his tenure, and its impact for the team. The Portugal international was killed in a road accident together with his sibling recently.
“How do you replace such an individual? This isn't just regarding the player himself, his personality mattered. I can’t imagine the dressing room missing him. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. A profound tragedy for the entire squad too. Nobody at Liverpool would cite it for poor performances but it is the situation. You walk in a dressing room which he filled completely. Handling this emotionally is not easy. Unbearable.”
