Marnus Labuschagne Omitted from Australia's ODI Lineup Versus Team India

Labuschagne finds himself omitted from the three-game ODI series facing India, with in-form Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw getting a unexpected inclusion.

Performance Issues Result in Exclusion

Labuschagne has been omitted from the ODI side following being dismissed for one in each of his two innings during the top-end series against South Africa in August. He has a highest score of forty-seven in his previous ten ODI batting appearances.

The batsman has featured in 68 ODIs and scored 1,871 runs at an average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now continue to press his claims a Test recall in time for the Ashes starting in Perth on 21 November.

Surprise Inclusion and Other Squad Updates

Recent performances suggest of a return to form with 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw made a century for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

The left-hander may to make his white-ball international debut in the upcoming series against India after last being included in an ODI squad in 2022.

Renshaw has played 14 Tests with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also seeking a red-ball recall as Australia look for a solution to their opening batting issues.

Bowling Returns and Injury News

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc returns for the ODI series against India after having time off since excelling for Australia in the clean sweep of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen may earn his ODI debut after suffering a concussion in the lead up to Australia’s most recent 50-over series against South Africa.

ODI captain Pat Cummins remains on the sidelines as he hopes to heal from a spinal issue in time to captain Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.

Team Announcement Strategy and Fixtures

Australia have announced a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will be absent for the five-game T20 series due to a wrist problem suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will captain both the ODI and T20 sides after scoring a hundred in the last match against New Zealand to seal a two-nil victory last week.

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be some management through the back end of the series as players get ready for the cricket season through domestic first-class matches,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period in the preparation for the World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously get ready certain individuals for the Test matches ahead.”

Australia’s three-game ODI series against India commences on October 19 in Perth, before the opponents play five T20s from October 29.
