Two Victims Identified in the Providence Campus Shooting as Law Enforcement Persist in Hunt for Gunman.

Two students who were killed in the recent tragic incident on the university campus were being remembered Monday – as a manhunt for their shooter carried on following the release by authorities in Rhode Island of the single suspect detained in connection in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was remembered as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, as stated by the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which honored her memory at a service on Sunday.

Cook was the vice-presidency of Brown’s branch of the College Republicans organization, the group said. Karoline Leavitt also expressed sympathies publicly, stating: “It's indescribable. Thinking of her kin and peers, above all her mom and dad.”

The Second Victim

The other person killed was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, from Uzbekistan in his first year of studies at the renowned school, family members said.

Umurzokov’s identity was confirmed by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. He had big dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon and assisting patients,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a online post.

The Shooting Incident

Nine other people were wounded in the violent event in the engineering building of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Law enforcement reported late Sunday that a man aged 24 taken into custody in a search at a Hampton Inn about 17 miles from the university earlier in the day was released from custody.

“We have a murderer out there,” declared Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.

Neronha explained, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you need to change course and go in another, and that is the current situation over the last day or so.”

Community Anxiety

Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, acknowledged: “This will probably generate fresh anxiety for our public”.

The shooter began shooting inside a room in the engineering building on Saturday, firing more than 40 rounds from a 9mm pistol, a police source reported to the media outlet.

Police that raided the lodging found a pair of pistols and two ammunition clips when the individual was taken into custody, as was reported.

The Wounded Victims

Of the nine hurt, one student was released from the hospital, said Christina Paxson, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in critical but stable condition, and one was in critical condition, authorities stated on Sunday.

An educational institution, a independent school in Durham, North Carolina, said a recent graduate, Kendall Turner, was among those critically wounded.

Cook was honored at a church service in Birmingham on Sunday. A reverend stated, “She was an incredible, grounded, faithful bright light not only here growing up... but at Brown University she was a radiant presence in that institution as well.”

Martin Bertao, Martin Bertao, shared a message from the club. “Ella was recognized for her courageous, valiant, and compassionate nature as she served her chapter and fellow classmates,” he said.

An American diplomat, Jonathan Henick, said he was “extremely sorrowful” by the passing of Umurzokov in a statement. “We extend our sincere condolences to his relatives, loved ones, and peers and grieve for of his promising future.”
